More of ‘On-Document Verification’

Question – Contract verification – legal and financial applications?

Answer – In my last 2 columns I have described different approaches to document security that allow users to implement a 2-dimensional symbol and make use of a feature that allowed them to also include data that had been encrypted with a digital signature technology.

Another powerful implementation of 2D symbologies is for contract verification for any  industry that requires authentication and verification of contracts, and their contents.

For an example, many companies issue contracts that are legally binding. A 2D symbol can be implemented to perform sever functions:

1) The symbol can contain data that is printed on the page, but in the symbol, the data is scrambled and can only be decoded with the issuing companies private key.

2) The symbol on the page can contain total document information, also scrambled, that can verify the number of pages, the contract owners identity, and the individual page location in relation to the entire document.

3) The information encoded with the scrambled data could also be used to secure private information about the contractee.

4) The symbol can be used to scramble information as required by regulations such as HIPAA and Sarbanes Oxley.

If the contract is questioned by any legal proceeding, any or all of these features, if used in a symbol with digital signature technology, can be used to establish the suthenticity of the document.

I would live to hear your ideas on how you imagine this exciting technology might help your company. Please feel free to send me your thoughts.
