Xerox, El Segundo, CA 1983 to 2006
Worldwide vendor for production printing systems, office printing systems, and global professional services.
Program Manager, Product Delivery (1996-2006)
- Achieved a Return on Investment (ROI) in excess of 180% for the product life by leading a worldwide product delivery for a suite of products (FreeFlow® VI Suite) including VIPP® language software extensions in the VI Interpreter, the VI Explorer, the VI PDF Originator, as well as communication to vendor/partners implementing via the VI Software Developers Kit (SDK) program. Sustained double-digit growth sustained for first 8 years and achieved number one market share (per CAP Ventures report) in 2003.
- Application development in support of customer sales opportunities including coding (VIPP), scripting (Unix shell scripts), installation, training, debugging, support, requirements assessments, prescribing professional services, writing RFP inputs, demonstrating application capabilities to all levels of customer.
- Supplied subject matter expertise in support of communication events with customer trainers, operating company representatives, technical support groups, sales, analysts and printer teams as well as support and presentations at XPlor and other trade show events.
- Negotiated and solicited consensus among various printer groups in Xerox and worked with various value-chain representatives to provide them with their required inputs to deliver the product as part of the printer team; analyzed and articulated the pricing, sales, support and tracking implementation for each printer team suited to each of the particular markets to which the printers were individually targeted. Printer teams included Entry Production Monochrome, Production Monochrome, Continuous Feed, Entry Production Color, Production Color, Office Monochrome, Office Color, Office Multifunction.
- Generated requirements list for each new release gathered from voice of customers at trade shows, from field/customer engagements, from strategy and from product planning teams. Analyzed additional requirements from engagements with the printer teams.
- Served as FreeFlow VI Suite Subject Matter Expert for engagements with field analysts, sales, and with customer engagements at Trade Shows, pre-sales conferencing, post sale support, problem resolution analysis and management.
- Coordinated a strategy team that identified need and initiated the development of Software Developer Kit(s) for the product suite.
- Developed information for field and technical support communities.
- Communicated and coordinated implementation plans for printer support to printer teams.
Technology Office Deployment Manager (1993-1996)
Led the deployment into early adopter customers in Europe making purchase decisions on printers that Xerox was developing but had not taken to market. Traveled to nine customers, twelve trips, spanning 24 weeks resulting in eventual sales in all nine accounts.
- Coordinated support teams to handoff the technology to prior to each customer visit (including IBM mainframe administrator, UNIX support analyst, and an expert in IBM’s IPDS workflow). Performed the installation, field training, monitored daily production runs and set up problem tracking and reporting for ongoing support.
- Led testing infrastructure and setup for the printer teams. Developed UNIX scripts and code that allowed testing of multiple printer configurations on a single digital front end. Communicated the value proposition of this code as a product concept and coordinated the handoff / productization of this code into a printer option (Dual Mode) that listed for $30K with over 300 sales.
Software Engineer (1983-1993)
Developed code for various software solutions sold and supported by Xerox Special Information Systems and installed/delivered to end customer sites resolving and/or coordinating the resolution of any installation and end user site/application integration issues.
- Developed message formatting module for Xerox Distributed Messaging Service product sold to various US Embassies. (Interpress C++ GUI programming on SunOS/Solaris platforms).
- Developed customization for user interfaces on printer front ends to meet specific customer requirements. (TCP/IP packet filtering software modifications on SunOS/Solaris systems).
- Developed SQL queries into Oracle databases from OOL-based language/interface (Xerox’ Interlisp-D) and integrated with FORTRAN applications for large-scale Government map-drawing application.
