The Videk Print Verification System Provides
Critical Inspection Accuracy For All Types of Credit Card
Statements
ROCHESTER, NY - Imagine if a stranger received your credit card
statement outlining your charges, account terms, and credit limit -
intermixed with their own personal information. Videk, a leading
manufacturer of optical character scanning and reading systems for
printing and mailing, has been awarded a seven-figure contract with
the world's largest credit card issuing company to see that this
nightmare never becomes reality. Videk's Print Verification SystemTM
(PVS) is placed directly in line with continuous laser printing
systems to assure the integrity of the credit card issuer's account
statement production.
Previously, statements were produced as simplex, variable page
count, two-up documents. The credit card company has switched from
pre-printed stock, which has a variety of shaded patterns on the
front and various pre-printed "disclosure text" on the reverse side.
The shaded pattern and disclosure text is now produced by the
continuous laser printers along with the statement contents. With
these changes, statements can be printed duplex resulting in paper
and postage savings.
That's where the Videk PVS comes in. "Our automated Inspect On
Demand technology makes it possible for this credit card issuer
to go from simplex to duplex printing and away from pre-printed form
stock without sacrificing accuracy," says Tom Slechta, president,
Videk. "This company prides itself on the strategic use of
technology and leads others in the industry by implementing the PVS
in their print line," Slechta continues.
With a document velocity of up to 58 inches per second, the Videk
PVS is able to read both sides of the 2up duplex statements. Multiple
"regions of interest" are defined on both sides of each document. The
PVS:
1) Checks readability of the bar code that is used for intelligent
inserting operations;
2) Assures that the correct disclosure information is printed;
3) Performs a print quality assessment;
4) Confirms that the printing is synchronized correctly between
the front and back of each page;
5) Assures print registration is correct on both sides of the 2up
document;
6) Improves the efficiency of the remittance operation by
verifying print registration.
The PVS can stop the print line when any of these defects are
detected. "The improvements in production efficiencies will be
significant," says William Gunther, National Sales Director, Videk.
"Statement printing is a major portion of this company's business.
It has to be right the first time."
