HP Unveils Technologies That Drive the Best User Experience

AUSTRALIA, July 2, 2014 — HP today unveiled core technologies in printing and personal systems for the New Style of IT, creating the best end-user experience for today’s business environments.

  • HP Data Pass technology, designed to make it easier for tablet or notebook users to connect to the internet.
  • The extension of HP PageWide technology to large-format printing, offering customers an affordable option for high-volume quality prints.
  • The HP DL380z Virtual Workstation, which adds virtualisation to HP’s secure, industry-leading workstation ecosystem.
  • HP Indigo 20000 and 30000 Digital Presses, built to deliver improved customisation across label and packaging applications.

“Today’s always-on, fast-paced, virtual and highly-connected environment unlocks new opportunities for businesses and end-users,” said Robert Mesaros, vice president and general manager, Printing and Personal Systems, HP South Pacific. “At HP, we are focused on innovation that delivers the best customer experience, while facilitating opportunities for customers to move to the New Style of IT.”

HP DataPass – Embedding mobile broadband connectivity in new PCs, tablets
In an ‘always on’ world, people need an easier and more affordable way to connect to the internet locally and when they are traveling.

Through HP DataPass, HP is simplifying how customers connect to the internet by embedding mobile broadband in select PCs and tablets and including a flexible mobile data service with locally competitive rates. The first of its kind in the Asia-Pacific region, HP DataPass will cover 13 markets globally and offers an affordable solution for users locally and when they travel to these countries.

Ready out of the box, HP DataPass allows customers to simply turn on, register and immediately connect to the internet with 3G or 4G LTE mobile broadband service powered by Fogg Mobile. Customers receive up to 250 MB every month for two years at no additional cost and without a contract. They also have the option to purchase additional data packages at locally competitive rates, again without a contract.

HP DataPass will first be made available in Hong Kong and Singapore on the HP Slate7 Voice Tablet Ultra by the end of 2014. The service will be progressively made available across more devices and markets in 2015.

HP PageWide – Scaling high-speed printing across segments
The demands of a fast-paced environment today are driving businesses to seek technology that can work more quickly and reliably, while streamlining their digital and paper processes.

For more than 30 years, HP has been building a strong inkjet innovation portfolio that can address customers’ needs across segments. In 2013, HP successfully incorporated its industrial-scale PageWide technology – a proven, advanced commercial printing technology used in HP Color Inkjet Web presses – into a desktop printer. The HP Officejet Pro X series was hailed the world’s fastest desktop printer, delivering high-quality printing at up to twice the speed and half the cost compared with laser printers.(1) HP further scaled its PageWide technology with the HP Officejet Enterprise X multifunction printers (MFPs) by adding full enterprise functionalities including scan-optimised digitisation features and support for enterprise software and solutions.

These enterprise solutions include the latest HP Access Control 14.0, which offers the first near-field communications (NFC)(2) touch-to-authenticate(3) solution for enterprises, allowing customers to authenticate user login information by touching an NFC-enabled Android smartphone directly to the printer. Customers can experience a simplified login process without sacrificing device or data security, or requiring a proximity card reader system.

HP is now extending its PageWide technology to large-format printing, disrupting the production printing market. By offering customers an affordable option for high-volume quality prints, the new HP Designjet printers powered by PageWide technology will transform an industry that typically prints in monochrome to one that prints in colour without compromising speed.

Large-format HP PageWide printers will be available in Australia in the second half of 2015.

HP DL380z Virtual Workstation – Integrating server and workstation technologies
Professionals across the Asia-Pacific region are collaborating more with one another in an increasingly virtual environment. However, the design and technical data created is often too huge to be easily shared, increasing project lead-time and making collaboration a challenge.

Leveraging HP’s innovation legacy in server and workstation technology, HP has developed a virtual workstation solution that provides remote access to workstation-class applications from a variety of devices including thin clients, notebooks and tablets. The HP DL380z Virtual Workstation combines HP’s industry-leading server technology, NVIDIA® virtualisation technology, and Citrix® virtualisation technology and delivers these via HP’s secure, industry-leading workstation ecosystem.

The HP DL380z keeps intellectual property centralised and secure by transmitting encrypted pixel data over LAN or WAN to remote users, helping protect sensitive data. It allows for flexible IT management with a choice of pass-through GPU and virtual GPU modes that can be configured according to usage needs, making IT change management simple and efficient. The HP DL380z also supports HP Remote Graphics Software (RGS), which pioneered remote access to graphics rich applications and the ability to host collaboration sessions from multiple devices and multiple operating systems including Linux. The newest HP RGS release 7 added the ability to have true workstation productivity from a tablet while bringing intuitive touch controls to non-touch applications.

HP Remote Graphics Software 7.0 is shipping on all HP Z Workstations starting in July. It is also available for free download by existing HP Z Workstation customers and available for purchase for use on all other supported hardware from July.

The HP DL380z is available in Australia from July. Pricing is available upon request.

HP Digital Printing – Driving impactful campaigns
Engaging customers in an increasingly connected world requires creative agencies, designers and businesses to change the way they position and communicate their new products, services and connect with their audiences.

HP is creating new opportunities for brand owners to create and connect with their target audiences. The HP Indigo 20000 Digital Press is now available and will enable longer print runs of pressure-sensitive, wrap-around label applications and expand into flexible packaging. In addition, HP Indigo 30000 Digital Press will expand into folding carton applications.

By delivering greater levels of customisation across label and packaging applications that allow consumers to connect to social and mobile platforms, HP’s latest digital printing technologies will enable brand-owners to drive more impactful marketing campaigns.
